Pre- versus post-exercise protein intake has similar effects on muscular adaptations


Both pre- and post-workout protein feedings lead to similar changes in body composition and strength in resistance-trained males 🏋

Brand new study from Schoenfeld and colleagues (2017) (including Alan Aragon & James Krieger) showing that the anabolic window of opportunity to maximise muscular responses to resistance training, is not as important as once considered 💪

When objectively looking at the data, it could be argued that immediately consuming protein after exercise may have a slight advantage. However, these differences fall into the (very-) marginal gains category and are not the be-all end-all of your progress in the gym 📊

Also, it should be noted that the current subjects did fall into caloric deficit rather than the prescribed caloric surplus, and therefore the results may differ had both groups been consuming an energy surplus. One of the many difficulties of working with humans in research. They don't like to do what they're told 😅
